The Finnish Fjordhorse Association was founded in 1988. Nowadays it has about 160 members and there are about 300 purebred fjordhorses (officially registered) in Finland. Studbook for fjordhorses opened 2003. In Finland the official register of horses (incl. fjordhorses) is maintained by Suomen Hippos ry.

Our primal goal is to breed a good fjordhorse stock in Finland. From the begining we have worked hard to obtain fjordhorse stock with a high quality. In this work we have carefully followed the norwegians and been co-operating with them. We also have connections to the other neighbouring associations.

To our members we offer the latest information about fjordhorses (breeding, advice for heath care etc.) and help them in getting a suitable fjordhorse. We arrage events, horse shows, training and coaching for riding and horse driving. The championship (dressage, jumping and carriage driving) has been arranged every year since 1996.

In Finland we introduce the fjordhorse as a horse with many usage possibilities. The fjordhorse is strong, surefooted and has a calm nature. It is suitable for almost every horse activity. We encourage our members to use the fjordhorses as it should be used: as all-round horses. And most of the members does use them like that. Fjordhorses are used for jumping, dressage, endurance riding and for horse driving (carriage driving and even forest driving).

In the associations newsletter "Vuonisuutiset" (Fjordhorse news) which is published in finnish and swedish, one can read about the events, members' stories about their horses, current information about fjordhorses and other interesting news. And important information about feeding and care of a fjordhorse can also be studied.
